RENE SHOEMAKER
WORDS & PHOTOS BY RINNE ALLEN
we enjoy seeing other artists' studios.
take for instance the days we visited our friend rene recently.
her studio is in the upstairs of an old building in downtown athens.
|
it gets lots of natural light and is itself inspiring. but we found ourselves
drawn to the tiny details of the tools and the process that rene uses to
produce her hand-painted silk artworks. on this particular day, she was
not working on a particular piece, but demonstrating how to paint on silk.
watching the mixing of pigments, the stretching of the silks, and the way
the paint dissolves onto the fabric when applied was mesmerizing.
