ideas for creative living

in the kitchen

gardening leads to cooking. having fresh grown vegetables on hand inspires the appetite. having a beautiful r.wood bowl to put it all in finishes it off perfectly. rebecca wood shares a recipe from her garden . . .

HOMEMADE PLUM WINE

RECIPE BY REBECCA WOOD & PHOTOGRAPH BY RINNE ALLEN

rebecca & rinne both have plum trees nearby and are trying out this recipe this summer...

  • rinse plums and put in a pot
  • almost cover with water and bring to the boil
  • boil gently for 30 minutes
  • strain into a colander (lined with cheesecloth or an old cotton dishtowel)
  • next, for every gallon of juice, add 3 pounds of sugar (don't worry, all that sugar turns into alcohol) and one pack of breadmaking yeast
  • stir well and cover with a cheescloth
  • let sit 3 weeks, until fermentation stops
  • strain and bottle in sterlized bottles. let it age 3 months or more.

uncork and enjoy!
