NESTING INSTINCT
story and photographs by rinne allen
the bare branches of winter reveal the hidden-world habitat of birds.
true do-it-yourselfers, they scavenge strands of blue plastic
and weave them like ribbons. |
they unfurl a cigarette butt
into a tuft of down; wood shavings left from a woodworker's
project, moss from a stream, and straw from the garden all are transformed
into insulation, a comfortable pillow, or the foundation
upon which they will build their home. thank you to paige for sharing her
nest with us - all the others were discovered by r.wooders while on walks. |
