what are your dishes made of? NC red clay (terra cotta) and hand-painted with up to as many as five coats of glazes.
how do you make your pieces? each of our pieces is slab built by one of our artists hands, that is why each piece is unique. the glaze is hand painted which gives them their rich and layered color.
are they durable? extremely.
are your dishes food safe? yes.
are your dishes lead and cadmium free? yes.
are your dishes oven safe? yes.
are your dishes microwave safe? No, red clay has iron in it and the metal heats up in the microwave
are your dishes dishwasher safe? for the longest life for your dishes we recommend hand washing, HANDMADE=HANDWASH. if you do use a dishwasher it is good to use a natural dish detergent.
how do i start picking out dishes? pick a color or a shape you like. the rest will fall into place. you can email us with questions and we can help you start your collection! you can also order a set of color chips to help choose the colors. call us at 1-888-817-9663 or locally at 706-613-8525 and order the chips over the phone.

do most people order one color or mix and match? most people mix and match. all of our colors work well with one another, so you can't go wrong.
how long does it take to receive my dishes, once i order them? each piece is made to order so it usually takes 2-3 weeks. If you need them sooner, please let us know and we will try to accommodate. it is well worth the wait!
can you gift wrap?we do not gift wrap but we can include a card as well as cards about the studio.
what is your return policy? We we want you to be 100% happy. items can be exchanged for other pieces or we will issue a store credit. just call us to discuss
do you offer a bridal registry? we do and it is fun and easy. you can set up your registry online and friends and family can order online or visit our shop in athens.
who is r. wood? rebecca wood started r. wood studio in 1991. we now have ten artists, some of whom have been at the studio for seven years, some for one month. read more in the about section.
do you let visitors come to your studio in athens? definitely. and we are open daily if you want to come see how everything is made and visit our shop . we are open 10am to 5pm during the week , 10am to 4pm on saturdays and 12 noon to 4pm on sundays.
do you have different pieces in your studio shop that are not on the website? yes, our studio shop is 3 rooms filled with hundreds of "one of a kind" pieces. we also have a "seconds" room where we sell our slightly flawed pieces at discounted prices.
can i order 'seconds' over the phone or online? at this you can only purchase our seconds at our studio shop. we can not do phone orders.
