about r. wood studio

our history

Rebecca Wood has always been driven by two things: the desire to create beauty and the desire to be her own boss. After receiving her BFA from the University of Georgia in 1977, she spent the next ten years building her reputation as a still life painter. She eschewed the gallery scene, instead showing her work at the homes of various collectors in Atlanta. She developed quite a following and was busy full time with commissions and paintings. However, following October of 1987, her career path changed course. Durring this time, Rebecca was having a show at an Atlanta gallery where half the paintings were sold. After news of the stock market crash, everyone backed out. That's when she switched gears and became an entrepreneur. She began creating hand painted velvets, handmade hats, and hand painted ceramics, selling them to upscale boutiques in New York.

By 1991, demand for her ceramics exceeded what she could produce, so she hired some assistants and R. Wood Studio Ceramics was born.
R. Wood Studio has since become a nationally known source for handmade ceramics, and one of the largest studio potteries in America, available through Sundance Catalog, and seen in such stores as Barney's, Bendel's, Neiman Marcus, and smaller boutiques all over the country. Now that the business is running 'smoothly', she has made more time for her first love, painting, although days are still spent at the studio creating one-of-a-kind plates or helping with orders. She is known for her inspiring vision, encouragement of creativity, and her guiding intuition. Rebecca Wood is busy in the business of creating beauty.
